چکیده

Quanti®ed statements are used in the resolution of a great variety of problems. Several methods have been proposed to evaluate statements of types I and II. The objective of this paper is to study these methods, by comparing and generalizing them. In order to do so, we propose a set of properties that must be ful®lled by any method of evaluation of quanti®ed statements, we discuss some existing methods from this point of view and we describe a general approach for the evaluation of quanti®ed statements based on the fuzzy cardinality and fuzzy relative cardinality of fuzzy sets. In addition, we discuss some concrete methods derived from the mentioned approach. These new methods ful®ll all the properties proposed and, in some cases, they provide an interpretation or generalization of existing methods. Ó 2000 Elsevier Science Inc. All rights reserved.

A survey of methods for evaluating quantified sentences

The evaluation of quantified sentences is used for solving several problems. Most of the methods proposed are not satisfactory because they do not verify some intuitive properties. In this paper we propose an extension of both possibilistic and probabilistic methods, based on the Sugeno and the Choquet fuzzy integrals respectively, for the evaluation of type II sentences, the most general kind ...

Conditions with aggregates evaluated using gradual numbers

This paper is devoted to the evaluation of conditions involving aggregates in the context of flexible querying of relational databases. An example of such a condition is “the maximum salary of young employees is high”, where the aggregate max applies to a fuzzy set of salaries. At first, we consider the evaluation of quantified statements where the aggregate count (the cardinality) is implicitl...

Clustering Based Automatic Fuzzy Partitioning of Numerical Attributes

Partitioning of quantified attributes is essential for mining association rules from quantified data and the Fuzzy approach solves the sharp boundary problem giving Fuzzy association rules having high interpretability and rich applicability. The paper presents automated partitioning of numerical data into Fuzzy sets based on k means clustering algorithm. This can be used as a pre-processing ste...

On the cardinality of fuzzy sets

It seems that a suitably constructed fuzzy sets of natural numbers form the most complete and adequate description of cardinality of finite fuzzy sets.(see [11]) Nevertheless, in many applications one needs a simple scalar evaluation of that cardinality by nonnegative real number, e.g scalar cardinality. There are many approaches to this evaluation-sigma count of fuzzy set, psigma count of fuzzy...

Fuzzy Descriptors based on Color, Coarseness, Directionality and Contrast for Image Retrieval

In this paper the concept of fuzzy descriptor as a level-two fuzzy set to represent some visual features is proposed. In particular, a fuzzy descriptor based on the dominance of color and texture features is defined and applied to image retrieval. For this purpose, the color and texture are modelled using fuzzy sets, taking into account the imprecision related to these visual features. In addit...
